18 May, 8:45-16:00: Workshop "Garden Ethics"

Venue: IWK, Berggasse 17, 1090 Vienna; organised by the research team New Directions in Plant Ethics

Gardens are often thought to be paradises while at the same time being highly conflictual in terms of interactions between humans and nature. Joining forces between philosophy, botany, horticulture and gardening, this workshop explores gardens as well as the practice of gardening from an ethical perspective. How can we, how should we relate to nature through designing, caring for, and experiencing gardens? Which values are inferred, which virtues can be learned, and what are good practices in this context? Which conflicts does the gardener have to face, which virtues can be learned in the process? After all, can gardens, or the ethical reflection on gardens, open up new ways of dealing with nature more carefully?

To discuss these and other related questions, the research team New Directions in Plant Ethics cordially invites you to the workshop "Garden Ethics",Thursday, May 18th 2017, 8:45-16:00, IWK, Berggasse 17, 1090 Vienna.

The workshop will be held in English, presentations are scheduled for 30 minutes, followed by 15-20 minutes of discussion.
